Environmental Nuts & Activist Judge’s ruling STOP fireworks show in California ..

Superior Court Judge Linda Quinn said La Jolla’s annual 4th of July fireworks show requires evaluation under the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA.

The case was filed by the Coastal Environmental Rights Foundation in Encinitas California, targeting San Diego’s approval of the La Jolla 4th of July Fireworks show but eventually drew in a wide range of city permits. San Diego officials said they issue about 400 special-events permits annually, along with up to 20,000 park-use permits for smaller-scale gatherings — most of which would now need environmental assessment.

The future of La Jolla’s 4th of July Fireworks show was fuzzy on Friday. Organizers likely can not complete the time-intensive and costly CEQA analysis by July 4.

Environmental impact reports can take a year and cost tens of thousands of dollars.

This looks like a bizarre crusade to stop fireworks. What is next on the nutty environmental hit list - a lawsuit against swimmers for polluting the ocean with their suntan lotion?

Banning fireworks on the 4th of July is just un-American. It's time to reign in these crazy environmentalists.

Warner Bros. sequel - The Hangover Part II - grossed $118.1 million in its first four days shattering numerous records and making this Memorial Day weekend the best in history at the domestic box office.

The sequel is expected to gross an additional $20 million on Monday for a staggering 5-day total of $138.1 million. That would also set a new benchmark for comedies. I have got to see this one since I love the first Hangover movie. Who knows how many Hangovers we will get.

Gas Prices continue to hurt All Americans & Business alike

Wal-Mart recently blamed high gas prices for an eighth straight quarter of lower sales in the United States. Target said gas prices were hurting sales of clothes. Every 50-cent jump in the cost of gasoline takes $70 billion out of the U.S. economy over the course of a year.

The tourism industry is bracing for an uncertain summer. AAA predicts the typical family will spend $692 on its vacation, down 14 percent from $809 last year. Many of the people surveyed said they are planning shorter trips and expect to pinch pennies when they arrive.

The median household income in the U.S. before taxes is just below $50,000, or about $4,150 per month. The $369 that families spent last month on gas represented 8.9 percent of monthly household income.

California elementary school teaches Gender identity - No wonder American Education stinks

What are they teaching in California ?

Oakland's Redwood Heights Elementary School is teaching a gender diversity lesson that features single-sex geckos and transgender clownfish. How appropriate is this ?

What ever happened to Reading - Writing - Arithmetic ?

The lessons were presented by an outside anti-bullying educational group called Gender Spectrum, paid for with a $1,500 grant from the California Teachers Union.

Joel Baum, director of education and training for Gender Spectrum teaches that...
"Gender identity is one’s own sense of themselves. Do they know themselves to be a girl? Do they know themselves to be a boy? Do they know themselves to be a combination?” Baum said. "Gender identity is a spectrum where people can be girls, feel like girls, they feel like boys, they feel like both, or they can feel like neither.”

Do these lessons represent the values of most Oakland residents? Unfortunately, many parents in the school are unaware that this is being taught. These lessons appear to be more of a "gender-bending" agenda that is infiltrating mainstream culture and advocated by those who refuse to accept the traditional sex differences between men and women than about quality education for our children.

Lebanon Strawberry Festival - June 2-5 features the World's Largest Shortcake

102nd Annual Strawberry Festival
Dates: June 2-5, 2011.
Location: Cheadle Lake Regional Park
Santiam Hwy. / Weirich Dr., south of town
Lebanon California

This event began in 1909. Back then strawberries cost 2 to 4 cents per pound. The festivals main treat is a Giant Shortcake that feeds 15,000 people and contains up to 1,000 pounds of fruit.

That cake is made every year, not in an ordinary kitchen but at a local grocery store baker. The shortcake calls for 514 cups of sugar, 224 cups of shortening, 192 cups of eggs, 992 cups of flour, 576 teaspoons of salt, 2048 teaspoons of baking powder, 448 cups of milk and 18 cups of vanilla.

In 1975, there was a "Battle of the Shortcakes" between Lebanon and Garden Grove, California. Lebanon won easily. The Lebanon cake weighed 5,700 pounds and served about 16,000. The Garden Grove cake weighed 1,200 pounds and served 3,000.

Happy Memorial Day - Let's not forget its true significance ....

Memorial Day - United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 30 in 2011). Memorial Day was formerly known as Decoration Day. Memorial Day commemorates men and women who died while in the United States military service. This holiday was first enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War. Memorial Day observance was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.

Memorial Day often marks the start of the summer vacation season. It's more than picnics, shopping, fireworks and even parades. It's about the brave men and women of the United States who gave their lives so that we all can remain free and do those fun things like picnic with family, go shopping, enjoy those magnificent fireworks and watch that local parade.

Do elementary school students have a 1st. Amendment right to free speech ?

The question of the right to free speech for elementary school students was never really a hot issue until some Plano Texas school students brought candy canes with religious messages tied to them to a class party. The students were not allowed to hand them out their classmates.

This incident happened 10 years ago but on Monday June 23, 2011 judges from the 5th. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments about it.

This case will impact every current and future elementary school student in the nation. Everyone who is a parent or grandparent or just cares about the future of this country should be concerned.

Many people feel that if the court rules that elementary students have no First Amendment rights, then neither students nor their parents will have any recourse against religious discrimination which they feel occurred in this case. It would be a massive shift of power away from citizens and families to the government.

The two Plano principals named in the suit said at the time that they believed they were left with no choice but to deny the students because of the way the district’s policy was written.

"Your Teacher Said What" - new book about "Liberal brainwashing" of our kids in school

CNBC anchor Joe Kernen rebels against the liberal brainwashing of his young daughter by the mainstream media and educational establishment with a new book - "Your Teacher Said What".

When Joe's daughter was nine, her answers to his questions around the dinner table told Joe that she had already absorbed a distorted view of economics. She was learning that capitalism is unavoidably immoral and that no matter how bad things get, the government will always bail us out.

He began teaching Blake how capitalism really works, and why it's worth defending. Ultimately, Joe convinced Blake that capitalism isn't about greed - it's about freedom.

Government gives Millions ($) in stimulus money to tax cheats ..

Congressional investigators have found that thousands of companies that cashed in on the President's economic stimulus package owed the government millions in unpaid taxes.

The Government Accountability Office, in a report released today said at least 3,700 government contractors and nonprofit organizations that received more than $24 Billion from the stimulus effort owed $757 million in back taxes as of Sept. 30, 2009, the end of the budget year.

Federal law does not prohibit tax delinquents from getting government contracts or grants. This is just another of the ridiculous laws that the federal government perpetuates. The examples of BIG Government ineptitude seem endless.

Easton Teachers agree to wage cuts that should save jobs ...

Easton Area teachers approved deep concessions to avoid massive layoffs that threatened to cripple the Easton school district. The teachers collectively offered to give up more than $30 million in contractual raises over the next 4 years.

With the potential loss of 160 teachers they agreed to a pay freeze for the 2011-2012 school year. They also voted on a salary schedule reconstruction, with a 2-year extension and a major reduction in raises. Stipends for coaching will also be adjusted. Tuition reimbursement will also be cut in half.

A study released just last week by state professional organizations indicated that nearly 70% of school districts in the state were considering laying off teachers.

Allentown - unleashes stink bugs across the country & millions of dollars in crop damage

The Stink bug spread has growers across nation worried. The bug has a voracious appetite, no domestic natural predators and has caused millions of dollars in crop damage and may just be getting started.

The brown marmorated stink bug, a three-quarter-inch insect native to Asia, is believed to have been brought first to the Allentown, Pa., area in 1998. The bug began appearing in mid-Atlantic orchards in 2003-2004 and exploded in number in 2010.

This spring 2011, stink bugs have been seen in 33 states, including every one east of the Mississippi River and as far west as California, Oregon and Washington. Growers in the mid-Atlantic region have reported the worst problems, and the apple industry appears hit hardest, with $37 million in damage to growers in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, according to the U.S. Apple Association. That's about 18 percent of the Mid-Atlantic crop. The bug, named for the foul smell it gives off when crushed, will feed on nearly anything, including cherries, tomatoes, grapes, lima beans, soybeans, green peppers, apples and peaches.

Domino's Pizza back on Top, but maybe not where you think

Domino's Pizza is a story of a stagnant home market in the U.S. and a thriving global one. Domino's currently has over 4,000 stores outside of the United States in over 60 international markets, and still growing. With rising incomes overseas, rising international appetite for pizza, and a falling dollar the results for the non-U.S. market are excellent.

In Domino's most recent quarter, they reported that same-store sales in the U.S. fell 1.4% compared to the year before quarter. The international same store sales however grew 8.3% in the first quarter, marking it the 69th consecutive quarter of same-store sales growth for the company.

Who the heck is "Katy Perry" & whats up with her 45 page "Tour Rider" requirements

A “Tour Rider” specifies the provisions that each entertainer requires while traveling on the road - just in case you didn't know.

Katy Perry is on her California Dreams World Tour. Her 45 page “tour rider” specifies that her drivers are not permitted to open doors, touch bags, or stare at the back seat thru the rear view mirror. The driver is also forbidden to start a conversation with Perry, speak to her guests or fans, ask for autographs, speak on the phone, or drive anywhere other than the left lane on highways. In total, there are 23 specific points on the page in the tour rider marked "Principle Driver Policy."

Many of the requests for Perry's dressing rooms are pretty standard like tea, fresh fruit, chips and salsa. One particularly slick requirement in Perry's “Tour Rider” asks for promoters to set aside seats for her "Personal Manager" to resell via secondary ticket vendors and stressing that Katy's crew isn't required to share any of the profits with the promoter. That means Perry's people are selling a handful of tickets directly to fans via the legendarily inflated secondary-ticket market and pocketing the profits.

2011 Hurricane Season predictions have arrived ....

U.S. government forecasters announced on Thursday, May19, 2011 that they expect 3 to 6 major hurricanes from an above average Atlantic storm season.
The good news has been that No major hurricane has made U.S. landfall in 5 years. The forecasters however warned U.S. coastal residents that odds are diminished that they cannot expect a 6th. straight year without a major hurricane landfall on either the Atlantic or Gulf coasts.

As many as 18 named tropical storms may develop during the 6 month Atlantic hurricane season that begins June 1, according to forecasters at the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration. Six to 10 of those storms could strengthen into hurricanes with top winds of at least 74 mph. Three to six could become major hurricanes, with maximum winds of 111 mph and up.

Last year's hurricane season was one of the busiest on record with 19 named storms, including 12 hurricanes. The 2011 season was not expected to be as extreme, partly because ocean temperatures were only two degrees warmer than normal, instead of four degrees warmer as they were last year.

Iceland volcano erupts - Bigger & more intensive than last April eruption & shutdown of Europe

Iceland closed its main international airport and canceled domestic flights today (Sunday) as a powerful volcanic eruption sent a plume of ash, smoke and steam 12 miles into the air.

This eruption was far larger than one last April 2010 that caused international travel chaos. Scientists however say that this one is unlikely to have the same widespread effect. The eruption of this "Grimsvotn volcano" is much bigger and more intensive than the "Eyjafjallajokull volcano" whose April 2010 eruption shut Europe's airspace for five days.

The winds are not as strong as they were in Eyjafjallajokull eruption last year and the ash is coarser than in last year's eruption, falling to the ground more quickly. The ash plume was covering Iceland, but "the good news is that it is not heading to Europe." The ash was blowing northwest toward Greenland instead.

Critics want to silence Ronald McDonald - "real concern" or just an agenda ?

The "main beef" coming from the critics of McDonald's is that McDonald's markets it's product to children. They love to quote the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention statistic that 17% percent of children and adolescents are obese. This is a problem and everyone should be encouraged to get help to correct their individual problem with excess weight, lose the weight and live a healthier life style.

BUT, it is not McDonald's that caused the 17% obese statistic. How many kids & adolescents in America have eaten at McDonald's in their lifetime? Would you guess 60%, 70%, 80% or event 90%? How many people do you personally know that have eaten at McDonald's? Are they all obese - No.

Conclusion - If 17% are obese then 83% are not obese. And many of that 83% have eaten and continue to eat at McDonald's. Guess what happens if you eat more calories then you burn off. Answer - You gain weight. No magic here! "Calories In" vs. "Calories Out". So stop looking for someone else to blame like "Ronald McDonald" and look in the mirror. Or just maybe these critics have an agenda. You decide!

New York owed $16.4 million in unpaid city parking tickets & fines from Foreign Diplomats

New York City wants a cut of any U.S. aid money heading to foreign countries who refuse to pay their parking tickets. Republican Representative Michael Grimm of Staten Island believes that "There's no such thing as 'diplomatic immunity' from paying parking tickets".

About 289 foreign missions have racked up more than $16.4 million in unpaid city parking tickets and fines in New York. U.S. current law allows withhold 100% of the amounts owed in unpaid parking tickets and taxes from any U.S. aid to offending countries.

New York city recently got Kuwait to cough up $1 million in fines. Egypt still tops the list of offending countries with 17,948 unpaid tickets totalling $1.9 million owed

America’s Most Wanted longest-running TV series on FOX cancelled

America’s Most Wanted longest-running TV series on FOX cancelled after 24 seasons. The program will continue however as a series of occasional FOX specials.

The program debuted back in February 1988. It debut on just seven Fox-owned stations. America’s Most Wanted was an instant success. Within 4 days of its first broadcast, one of the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted was captured as a direct result of the show. Several months later, the series debuted on the new FOX network and became its first hit. The series has been one of the best-rated shows on Saturday nights for quite some time.

FOX's entertainment president said however that the ratings weren’t enough to justify the cost. It has been an important show for FOX historically but it’s no secret that FOX has not made money on the show in a quite awhile.

Teacher “rubber rooms” – union power and its cost to ALL taxpayers

In NYC the mayor and the city’s teachers’ union have finally agreed to do away with teacher “rubber rooms”. Rubber rooms are reassignment rooms full of teacher’s accused of incompetence or wrongdoing waiting for their respective hearings. This disciplinary system has rightly made both City Hall and the teachers’ union subjects of ridicule.

There are now about 550 teachers, costing the city of New York $30 million a year.

Under this agreement between the mayor and the teachers union the teachers that the city is trying to fire will no longer be sent to the rubber rooms. These rubber room reassignment centers are rooms where the teachers show up every school day, sometimes for years on end, doing no work and drawing full salaries. Stories in newspapers and magazines have detailed how teachers run businesses out of the rubber rooms or doze off for hours on end all at tax payers expense. This is an absurd and expensive abuse of tenure.

The new agreement will now require that these teachers will be assigned to administrative work or non-classroom duties in their schools while their cases are pending.

The union did not appear to sacrifice much in the deal. While the agreement speeds hearings, it does little to change the arduous process of firing teachers, particularly ineffective ones. Administrators still must spend months or even years documenting poor performance before the department can begin hearings, which will still last up to two months.

Although the city has invested about $2 million in hiring more lawyers to help principals get rid of teachers, it has managed to fire only 3 for incompetence in the last two years.

Looks more like "Dreary Valley" not "Lehigh Valley" - What's with this weather

What's with all this rain? The weather people advise us to keep our umbrellas handy for the next several days as a storm system continues to move eastward at a snails pace. This unsettled weather pattern will hang around for much of the week. They expect mostly cloudy skies today (Sunday) with a couple of showers and perhaps a thunderstorm or two. The chance for a couple of showers or a thunderstorm will continue to be possible at any time through Friday. I thought the old saying was... "April Showers bring May flowers" ... Hey, Mother Nature its May 15 already.

2011 - Worst Allergy Season Ever in the History of Mankind - OK, so maybe I exaggerate

Every year I say it feels like the worst allergy season ever. But this year I'm hearing it from more people who never had allergies before. What's up with that?

This year has seen a very high amount of pollen from plants and trees like maple and oak. The trees are having a worse effect this season because heavy snow and rain in parts of the country has nourished a proliferation of tree pollen. The weather then got warmer and released more pollen. You add in the windy spring and you get - the worse allergy season in the history of mankind.

USA Inflation is the worst since 2008 – Did you hear that Mr. Bernanke

In April inflation accelerated to its fastest annual pace in 2 ½ years. Gas prices and food prices continue to hit consumers. The Consumer Price Index, the government’s key inflation measure, rose 3.2% over the last 12 months ending in April 2011. This report from the Labor Department reflects the biggest 12-month jump since October 2008.

For months now, FED chairman Bernanke and his supporters have downplayed the recent increase in U.S. inflation. He said that overall consumer price increases reflected spikes in oil and other commodities that were unlikely to last.

Why is Mr. Bernanke downplaying Inflation when anybody who shops for food or puts gas in their car knows that it’s here now and has been accelerating since 2008 as the Labor Department report reflects.

Speaking of Water - here's an Hydration Tip

Hydration Tips

• Match your caffeinated beverages with a glass of water. Caffeine acts as a diuretic and actually dehydrates you so fight back by re-hydrating immediately with a glass of water.

• Try this daily water routine. Start the day with a glass when you get up, then have at least one more with each meal. Don't forget to have some before you go to bed to finish off your daily water routine.

• Take water breaks. Mid-afternoon is a good time to break for a bottle of refreshing water. Don't forget to hydrate before, during and after your exercise routine.

Washington DC was wrong again - Medicare runs out of MONEY sooner -2024

The government had to revise its estimate again -- So what else is new. Yes people, Medicare the federal government’s largest trust fund will run out of money in 2024 – 5 years earlier. If the Medicare problem is not tackled now as some Republicans have suggested the system will be out of money and not be there in a very short time. Everyone knows “how time flies – 2024 is not that far off.

Washington needs to “tackle” the problem NOW and not like Nero “fiddle while Rome (USA) burns”. It is shameful how some Democrats are trying scare seniors in an effort to get votes. I guess to them it’s more important to get votes than work on the countries problems. Enough already with playing politics with Medicare. Do the “hard work” that you were elected to do NOW and stop “kicking the can down the road” for our kids and grandchildren to deal with and fix the Medicare problem. This May 2011 Trustees Report stressing that Medicare runs out of money in 2024, 5 yrs earlier means that “we have now run out of road”.

Frugal way to SAVE money - tips that really do work ...

Pay Bills On Time & Do it Online

Tip #15:     Today most banks offer free electronic bill payment services that will automatically pay your monthly bills. It is very easy to set up online and it takes only takes a few minutes. Start today and never pay a late fee again.

There is an added benefit to paying your bills online. You will never need to pay for postage stamps again. The US post office raises the cost of stamps on a regular basis but it won't affect you.

Here's a Money Saving Tip - I'm sure you overlook every day ....

Cancel Your Landline
It's 2011 - just about everyone has a cell phone. Just because we have always had a landline in our homes is no reason to continue paying that monthly phone bill for those ancient phones that quite honestly we use less and less each day.

Tip #45:     In an age when everyone has a cell phone, landlines are not necessary so rip those ancient phones out of those wall jacks.

You can also utilize free computer-to-computer calling via Skype, which beats using the phone because if you have a webcam, you can see the person you are talking to..

With Skype you can make free calls over the Internet. Skype – the whole world can talk for free

Goodbye Charlie Sheen – Ashton Kutcher the NEW Charlie Harper on 2 ½ Men

Ashton Kutcher appears to have won the "Two and a Half Men" job.

The actor is said to have put the final touches on a deal to replace Charlie Sheen as the star of TV's No. 1 comedy.

Kutcher tweeted about the news on Thursday .... "What's the square root of 6.25?" he wrote. The answer is, in fact, 2 1/2.

The exact dollar amount he will be paid is not yet known, but one source says that Kutcher is getting a "huge payday" to join the hit sitcom.

Hugh Grant had previously passed on the opportunity to join the show.

Cheap or Frugal – doesn’t matter here's a tip to Save your hard earned money $$

Buy Generic
With the dramatic increases in the price of gas and food, we all could use some tips on how to save more of our hard earned money.

Tip #36:     You can save 30% to 60% by purchasing generic brand food and drugs. Consumer Reports issued a study that found that 80% of trained tasters could not tell the difference between store and national brand food products.

Sounds to me like it's all in our "heads" and not our "tastebuds" when we buy national brands overstore brands.

Will we ever see Tiger Woods again?

Tiger Woods withdrew after just 9 holes of play on Thursday at The Players Championship.

Tiger was playing with Martin Kaymer and Matt Kuchar. After a nine-hole stretch in which Tiger had three bogeys and a triple-bogey, the now 42-year-old Tiger turned limped off the course, citing the injury to his knee as his reason for dropping out.

It is the second straight year that Tiger withdrew from this tournament and the fourth withdrawal of his career. What's next for Woods? Who knows right now? Tiger said before the week that he felt his knee was 100 percent and his goal was to win. The bottom line is Tiger Woods is out at The Players, and his future right now seems a little grim.

New golf ball that only-flies-straight has been developed - Hooray - Oops - there's one problem...

Introducing the "Polara Golf Ball" - this ball is guaranteed to fly straight. It flys straight because of two different dimple patterns on the ball. It has a shallow set around the ball's equator, and deeper dimples along the poles. The combination of these 2 dimple patterns keeps the ball flying lower and straighter. It is a wonder to behold off of the tee and the price for these super balls is only around $30.

But there is a catch to this new ball. The pattern is illegal according to the USGA, so you can not use it in any sanctioned competition in the United States.

Microsoft Inc. said it would buy Internet telephone service Skype for $8.5 billion in cash. The Skype purchase would be Microsoft's largest in its 36-year history. It follows AT&T Inc.'s announcement in March that it would buy T-Mobile USA for $39 billion and Johnson & Johnson's $21.3 billion deal announced last month to acquire Synthes, a maker of medical instruments and implants.
