All that for his new movie, which is a sci-fi western - "Cowboys and Aliens." He makes a good cowboy but I'm still having a problem with cowboys fighting aliens.

Does U.S. need to hire Apple's Steve Jobs & staff & fire the Pres., Senate & House of Reps

Apple has more cash on hand than the United States federal government, according to the company's financial records. Apple's quarterly financial report shows that the company famous for its' iPad, iPod and iPhone now has $76.4 billion in reserve cash, while the Treasury Department is sitting on just $73.7 billion.

International credit rating agencies have threatened to downgrade the national debt for the first time in the nation's history if Washington doesn't come up with a solution to increase the $14.5 trillion debt ceiling while implementing a concrete plan to get the nation's run-away "spending” down.

Attention, Federal Government, how about a few lessons from one really successful company. Apple's financial report shows that the company's profits, even through the last recession, are booming. It's amazing what good management and sound financial principles can produce – like not spending $14.5 trillion more than you take in.

The Bad condition of U.S. Education that ... ALL the Money in the world won't FIX ...

The recent news of the Atlanta, Georgia school cheating scandal highlights the bad state of our education system. Over 80 Atlanta teachers admitted to cheating on state standardized tests. Yes, the teachers were cheating for the kids.

One group of elementary teachers even held a "party" after school to change their pupils' answers by hand. What kind of thinking is that? Why not have a "party" to teach the kids how to study or maybe a "party" to give them some additional "teaching" help? .... But, a "party" to cheat !

Kids feel the need to "cheat" and now some teachers even feel the need to "cheat" because both are equally unprepared. The kids need to learn the "quality education material" that school districts taught years ago. Get back to basics - Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, History, Geography, and Science. You need to build a strong foundation first. And if a teacher thinks that it is OK to teach a kid to cheat then maybe they need a career change because they are obviously unqualified to influence young minds.

With the next election cycle in full swing you are already hearing the familiar talking point from the Politicians that "we need to invest more money into education".

There is NO amount of money that can fix a bad teacher, inspire an unmotivated student, energize an uninterested parent, improve an inferior curriculum supported by a school district, or overcome inept, unqualified state and federal school officials.

Truth is .... there are things Money cannot buy or fix .... like a Good, Quality Education.

Did Barnes & Noble use stolen technology in its' Nook ? ....

In a suit filed Wed., July 27, 2011 in the U.S. District Court in Allentown, Agere Systems and LSI Corp. are claiming that Barnes & Noble's Nook eReaders are making use of patented technology to connect to 3G and WiFi data networks and to process electronic music files.

The suit alleges that Nook infringes on 11 patents issued to Agere, LSI and Agere's precursor, Lucent Technologies. LSI Corp bought Agere in 2007 and operates some of its facilities in Allentown and Hanover Township. Both LSI Corp and Agere Systems are named as plaintiffs in the suit.

LSI Corp and Agere Systems aren't the only companies who have a problem with Barnes & Noble over the Nook. In March, Microsoft Corp. sued Barnes & Noble alleging that the Nook's Android operating system violates several of the software giant's patents.

It's possible that S&P could downgrade USA Credit rating before Aug. 2, 2011

Standard & Poor's, the credit rating agency is warning that there is a 50 % chance it will downgrade the U.S. government's credit. This credit downgrade, if it happens does not depend on the Aug. 2nd date either - it could happen before that date.

This is what happens when politicans have an ADDICTION to SPENDING.

And the people of America must suffer for that ADDICTION.

And the White House, Senate & Congress are still playing POLITICS.

Football News - NFL owners vote a deal to end lockout - NOW it's up to the Players

Owners Approve New Football Labor Deal, it's now up to the players.

The probability of the Philadelphia Eagles returning to Lehigh University this summer is still in doubt - time is running out. The lockout will not end until a new agreement is finalized, voted on and signed by the players. Time is the main problem - "Not enough time".

The trade and free agency period takes time also and that would begin after an agreement is signed. The Eagles may not have enough time to train at the Lehigh campus. The Eagles have an August 17 checkout date. This date is necessary in order to turn around the dorm, athletic and dining facilities for student use a week later.

The Eagles may have to skip Lehigh altogether and hold their entire training camp at the NovaCare Complex which is the team's regular practice facility in south Philadelphia. Some bad omens have already happened regarding training camp. The Baltimore Ravens have already cancelled the public portion of their camp at McDaniel College. The New York Jets followed suit and cancelled their off-site training camp. The dominos could start to fall as the other teams may do the same and cancel their off-site training camps.

Can you say "Goodbye Eagles for summer 2011"? There's always next year.

FAA tax has EXPIRED - SAVE MONEY on Flying with No Federal Tax …

The US Congress has failed to approve the 21st extension of authority for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Efforts to avert a shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration failed Friday, July 22, 2011 over a $16.5 million cut in subsidies to 13 rural communities. Approximately 4,000 people will be temporarily out of work and federal airline ticket taxes will be suspended.

Airline passengers may see a big savings on their airfares, but the situation is a little confusing. The federal taxes on a $300 round-trip airfare are about $61. Approximately half of that comes from airport and security fees that will continue to be collected, according to the Air Transport Association.

Airlines have been making adjustments to their computer systems and online websites so that taxes would no longer be added to airfares according to the association.

Some American Greatness gone Forever- NASA final shuttle flight lands - ends 30 yr program

NASA's final shuttle flight landed in Florida ending a 30-year program. The 100-ton spaceship Atlantis landed at the airstrip at the Kennedy Space Center today - July 21, 2011. This was the 135th. and last shuttle mission in a 30-year history.

America will have to pay the Russians in the near future to go to the International Space Station because the Russians are the only carrier to the Space Station now. The Russians will get hundreds of millions of dollars in fees to transport U.S. and other astronauts to the orbiting laboratory in its Soviet-vintage Soyuz spacecraft.

The Russian Space Agency charges NASA $56 million to send up astronauts and that cost will increase to $63 million per person starting in 2014.

This situation is sickening. So you think some of America's greatest hasn't diminished?

Probably the most famous highway in the USA is Route 66. It was one of the original federal routes and was established on Nov. 11, 1926. It originally ran from Chicago, Illinois through St. Louis, Missouri, then on to Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and ending in Los Angeles, California some 2,448 miles later.

Famous Route 66 marked the birth of the fast-food industry. The 1st.drive-thru restaurant appeared on Route 66. By 1970 nearly all of the original route was replaced by a more efficient 4-lane highway. Route 66 was official decommissioned but fans of the original Route 66 love to travel and enjoy one of America's true treasures.

Why will Movie Theater attendance weaken over the next 5 years ..

A recent report by Moody's predicts that movie theater attendance will continue to weaken over the next 5 years. The report attributes the weak attendance to unappealing movies and competition from Netflix. Each year seems to bring more alternatives to actually going to the movie theater. Netflix and Hulu are just two examples to alternate movie going.

Box-office revenue is down about 8 % and attendance is down nearly 10 % compared with a year ago, according to the report.

In spirit of "Shared Sacrifice" let ALL Gov. workers from Pres. on down take % pay cut like private sector

In the spirit of the current clamor for "Shared Sacrifice" that is being circulated by the President, politicians and political pundits alike, I think it's only fitting that ALL Government workers from the President and Senators on down take a percentage pay cut like the private sector has endured during this extended recession. I'm sure they ALL want to reduce the DEFICIT and prevent us from becoming Greece. Don’t you think so?

Naturally those at the TOP pay scale should take a greater % pay cut. Oh, and lets do it before August 4, 2011

Is Tiger Woods getting short on "Money" these days ....

No, it can't be. Well, he only has a few endorsement deals left. Oh yes, the recent divorce settlement probably was BIG. He also got a pay cut from Nike. The once king of the sports world has suffered financially lately.

Company giants like Gillette, Accenture, Tag Heuer, and Gatorade having all jumped the "Tiger ship". Tiger's major deals are now down to 3. Nike is the most prominent of the 3. Estimates of Tiger's Nike money are down as much as 50% in 2010. That's got to hurt. Nike penalized Tiger and reduced his payment for two years as a response to his public behavior.

Another factor that has shrunk Tiger’s wallet is his tournament winnings. Woods won no majors in 2009, the first year that's happened since 2004. He went completely winless in 2010, and this year he has so far missed the U.S. Open, AT&T National, and the British Open.

In better times Tiger won $10.9 million in 2007, $5.8 million in 2008, and $10.5 million in 2009.

Time for "Balanced Budget Amendment" - Obviously Pres., Senate & House can not balance the budget

A balanced budget amendment is simply a constitutional rule that would require the government not spend more than its income. It would require a balance between the projected receipts and expenditures of the government. If we would have had this requirement over the years we would not be faced with a $14.5 TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT that by August will undoubtedly be raised to $16.5 TRILLION.

Balanced budget provisions have been added to the constitutions of most U.S. states and also to the constitutions of countries like Germany and Switzerland. In case you haven't seen it in the news media lately, Germany is the MOST FINANCIAL SOUND country of ALL the countries in Europe.

Friday Evenings in the Sculpture Garden - July 2011 Schedule - Bethlehem

Bethlehem - Friday Evenings in the Sculpture Garden

July 8th – Dave Fry – Dave returns to Bethlehem showing us why he’s still the best folk performer around.

July 15th – Religion & Cash – This local favorite plays everything Elvis and the Everly Brothers to the Beatles, Dar Williams and contemporary folk.

July 23rd – 3rd Street Blue – great blues to finish out the series

These concerts have rapidly become a favorite start to a summer weekend. People bring lawn-chairs or blankets and picnic suppers. The Concert Committee for the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission loves to see families sharing this time together.

Fan who returned Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit baseball has some New Heavyweight Friends ..

Remember Christian Lopez the New York Yankee fan who caught Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit baseball and promptly returned it to Jeter and received some nice gifts from the Yankees. Well, with gifts come the IRS and the taxes due on the gifts. Yankees tickets and signed Jeter memorabilia are worth a lot of money after all.

Mr. Lopez is not thinking about taxes right now but some heavyweight companies are. Some companies are already stepping up to support him. Miller High Life has reportedly offered to pay any potential tax hit that he might get. Another white knight could be Modell’s. Modell’s, the popular sporting goods company has announced that they will put a program in place to help pay for any costs that come Lopez's way.

South New Jersey shore is riding a Wave of business this summer - 2011

Two very different reasons are bringing BIG smiles to south Jersey businesses this summer - 2011.

The reasons are the lousy economy and beautiful Mother Nature. Thanks to Mother Nature the weather has been really good this summer and what better place to be with nice weather than the Shore. The recession is the other reason for the increase in business. More people are choosing to take several short trips to the shore instead of taking a flight for some far away vacation.

Why does the Federal Government have a “spending addiction”

- The Federal Government does not create wealth.

- The private sector creates wealth - Big corporations, small businesses, partnerships, and self-employed individuals selling products and services create the wealth in America.

- The government takes the private sector’s wealth through taxes and spends it.

- It’s easy to spend other people’s money, isn’t it?

- To date the Federal Government has spent $14.4 trillion more than the private sector has created over the years.

- So what’s the easy solution for the Federal Government – Naturally, take more private sector wealth through taxes.

- Bottom Line – This is a spending problem – the Federal Government is addicted to ALL manner of spending the people’s money.

What's on people's mind when it comes to their money - Google knows

Google Trends measures search patterns over time. It looks like "saving" is on people's mind from recent search inquiries.

It appears that the Recession has finally taught U.S. households the need to get their balance sheets in better order. Recent data on income and spending reflects that U.S. households have socked away 5.8% of their after-tax income. That was the rate averaged for all of 2010, and a far better pace than just before the recession when consumers saved barely more than 2%.

Americans must learn to live within its means. We have been conditioned to spend for a very long time. The recession changed all of that.

Say Hello to the - 51st. state of the USA - What? Where? Are You Kidding? ...

Jeff Stone, a Republican member of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors is proposing the formation of the 51st.state in the Union. The 51st state would be created from 13 Southern California counties. The new geographic entity would contain about 13 million residents and make it the 5th. most populous state in the new expanded Union.

The new state would, of course, get the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, the Miramar Naval Air Station and the San Diego naval base, including the nuclear sub facilities. Of the 13 existing counties in the new state, 11 have consistently voted Republican. I guess the rest of old California would be Democrat. This is starting to look like the great state of California-Dem. ( 50th. state ) and the great state of California-Rep. ( 51st. state )
