AT&T made a surprise bid to acquire T-Mobile USA for a reported $39 Billion. Obviously that means more consolidation in this competitive industry. If this acquisition gets approved it will make AT&T and Verizon Wireless the 1-2 punch in wireless carriers.
Verizon will undoubtedly feel compelled to make some acquisition of its own. More consolidation …. yadda yadda yadda. I am afraid that such consolidation frenzy will drive up mobile service rates and probably reduce the number of phones available to all subscribers. AT&T states that this deal will increase competition and lower prices. Where have I heard that before?
Less competition = Lower prices. <=== Does this equation sound correct to you?
Some phrases come to mind that make me queasy….. Captive audience, Only show in town.
