US Government wants your $1 Paper Bills - Now

March, 2011
The U.S. Government Accountability Office issued a formal proposal to the Treasury and Federal Reserve asserting that if it eliminated the $1 bill and replaced it with a $1 coin, the USA could save approximately $5.5 billion during the next 30 years. The reasoning for the proposed change from paper to coin for the $1 currency is that the dollar bill has a shorter lifespan than dollar coins.
