Electric cars with battery power are trying to push fuel efficiency to the max. Automakers are expanding their offerings of conventional hybrid cars and rolling out models that can run purely on electricity. The 50-mpg Toyota Prius, arguably the most recognizable hybrid on the road today, is facing increased competition from Ford, Hyundai, Honda and other manufacturers who are making their own hybrids.
