National Donut Day occurs on the 1st. Friday of June each year. National Doughnut Day started in 1938 as a fund raiser for the Chicago Salvation Army. The goal was to help needy people during the Great Depression, and also to honor the Salvation Army "Lassies" of World War I, women who served doughnuts to soldiers.
