Leaders in the House of Representatives announced on Monday, August 8, 2011 that they are ending the congressional page program for high school students. Congressional pages have assisted members of the House in our nations history for almost 200 years.
The congressional page program is finally being terminated due to two reasons. In these financial conscious times the cost of the program has become prohibitive. The program cost about $5 million a year. The other reason simply is that advances in technology have reduced the need for most of the page provided services.
