Pope Benedict XVI accepted the retirement resignation of Philadelphia archbishop Cardinal Justin Rigali today - Tuesday July 19, 2011. The new Archbishop to lead Philadelphia will be the current Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput and not Louisville Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, formerly of the Allentown Diocese. Archbishop Joseph Kurtz spent many years in the Allentown Diocese and was extremely popular. Archbishop Kurtz was reportedly considered for the position as well.
