What does the LCB – Liquor Control Board have against you and me ……

The LCB has cautioned restaurants about the discount policy offers like the “daily deals” from Groupon . The LCB reminded the restaurant industry that applying these discounts to purchases of liquor, wine and beer are violations of the law and they could be sited.

These discounted restaurant deals save you and me money when we go out to dinner. So why is the LCB raining on our parade. Well, the LCB is not raining on us as much as it is on the “restaurant industry” and the “Discount Deal” companies.

Goupon alone reported revenue of $460 million in 2010. Theses discounted restaurant deals are BIG business, highlighted by the $5.3 billion offer by Google to purchase Goupon. If the state steps up local enforcement of the law it will be the restaurants that take a hit in their effort to attract more customers with coupon and gift card promotions.
