Allentown Symphony Hall - Jazz weekend starting Friday May 20, 2011

Allentown Symphony Hall will host 2 jazz concerts this weekend featuring many of local performers in a wide range of styles.

    Craig Kastelnik & Friends, featuring drummer Bernard Purdie, plus singer Pat Flaherty and Tom Kozic on guitar will perform on Friday night in the Rodale Room. They will play everything from jazz to funk to R&B and Latin. Show is at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $20, adv.; $25, door; $10, students, and include light fare.

    Sunday will showcase a special concert to benefit El Sistema Lehigh Valley, an educational initiative to bring music to disadvantaged children in the city. Performing in the main hall are Eric Mintel Quartet, Moravian Greyhound Jazz Trio under the direction of Alan Gaumer, Hector Rosado & The Latin Jazz Ensemble, Marlene Gilley Swingtet, Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts under Frank DiBussolo, jazz vocalist Robin Bryan and Easton High School Jazz Band under the direction of Carole Lutte.

The concert starts at 4 p.m. You can meet with the artists follows the concert. Cash bar and snacks will be available. Tickets are $20; $10, students. For Information call 610-432-6715.
